It is with a heavy heart that we announce the unexpected passing of Stratos Mamalakis, former President of the Minos Syllogo in Astoria, NY, last week. Our prayers and support go out to his family and close friends.
Out of respect for him and his family, we are delaying the publication of our scheduled August 15th Young Professional post till September 1st. We are also offering all those attending our September 27th event at Minos Syllogo a memorial token to honor Kirio Mamalakis, who helped make the syllogo the welcoming social center it is today.
Words seem both full and empty in moments like these, yet from the wonderful posts on Facebook and elsewhere, along with the lovely stories people have been sharing this past week, we can all see that Kirio Mamalakis was well loved and respected. Here are two of several memorial statements posted by the PAA: John Sargetis and Emmanuel Velivasakis.
Special thanks to the PAA Women’s Executive Director, Zaharoula Marmatakis, for sharing the collective narratives and posts near and far and for organizing the community collection for the memorial services.
Services will be held on Monday 08/25/14 at 12pm at St. Catherine’s on Ditmars Blvd and 33rd Street. For information, please contact St. Catherine’s directly: (718) 728-1100.
